CONSTRUCTION: CO-PRODUCTION COMPANY IDENT
Today in class me and Tom made an ident for our project, we worked as the co-production group and made an ident for a production company called "Snake Productions" we worked on IMovie, we started by finding a green screen animation on YouTube, we downloaded an animation of a snake attack, we then put it onto IMovie and started editing it, we initially put the green screen animation into IMovie and then proceeded to put our production companies logo on top of the animation clip with the overlay settings so it looked like the snake was slithering around the logo. We then added a thirty second hissing sound in the background to reflect the snake. The pictures shown below are the logo of our production company, the picture of the website we used to download our green screen animation, and two pictures of out editing process.

FILMING: DINING ROOM SCENE
On the 10th of January, we filmed the Dining
Scene which involves the 2 Robotica employees, Luke and Tony, and the
robot, Rick. This is the final scene of the movie and involves Luca, Luke,
bragging about improving Rick whilst Tom continues to warn Luca about Rick’s
“unstable processor”. The scene dramatically ends with Rick initiating, looking
down at the knife he was eating with before picking it up and stabbing Tony
between his fingers. Once we had filmed the scene we then imported the videos
from the SD card to the Mac that we had previously been editing on. When editing the piece, Luca made sure he ended it
with Luke saying the word “future” echo as the screen fades. In
addition, he changed the colour of the extreme close up of Rick’s eyes to “Heat
wave”, this made it seem more sinister.

EVALUATION: MY TARGET AUDIENCE & HOW I ENGAGED THEM
I needed to plan how to reach my target audience. I also needed to know who they were. I had to
research age, gender, ethnicity and social class. I also needed to
research what their media needs were so that I could produce a product that
they will want. Finally, in order to market our movie, I had to know how to reach them.
I will show how my research has influenced my planning by answering the question below along with pictures to help support my answers.
I started by studying how brands define audiences
to help create my own audience profile for our production. For example I looked
at how Sky and NME defined audiences. This helped when I was profiling my
audience, as a part of distributing my film I created a Facebook page, and other
members of my group created things like an Instagram and Twitter accounts and
also a film website. When trying to find out who my audience was I worked out
why they enjoy the genre of this film. Why would they want to watch my film?
What makes my film different from competing films? And How will my film appeal
to the viewing needs of my target audience?
1. Who is my primary target
audience?
British, Male and female aged
from 15-35 who love sci-fi and adventure films.
2. What kind of films and television are they likely to prefer?
After doing some film research we discovered that
the film “Morgan” would seem like a popular movie for our target audience. It’s a story
about a bio-generated girl created by human however things didn’t go quite as
planned as she ended up turning lethal and dangerous.
3. What platforms do they choose to watch films and where are they likely to see information about films?
Our audience is most likely to enjoy a film in the
cinema most likely at an IMAX as they can experience the true
richness and quality of it.
4. What brands do they prefer?
As shown below in my mood board, I did some research into some brands that our audience would like. For food, I used places I enjoyed such as SubWay. For clothing, my age group and I agreed that our preferred shops are Palace, Off-White, Nike Etc. Finally, for media, My fellow peers and I all love films like Star Wars (George Lucas) and Morgan (Luke Scott). In addition we are the first film in just under 17 years to solely focus on A.I as the last film to do so was Steven Spielberg's “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” from 2001.
5. What makes my film stand out from the competition?
The reason our film stands out
from the competition due to the fact that we're currently experimenting with
A.I and it is a topic which has recently gained popularity thanks to icons such
as Mex Tegmark in his book “Life 3.0” and even Elon Musk. This makes our film a little
more believable and realistic unlike other films such as Morgan or
Star Wars.

PLANNING: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
01/12/2017 Lesson:
Hot seating your characters can help you develop how you represent them. It also gets everyone on board by delving into the backstory of the character. For my character in my film opening entitled Robotica, we decided to interview our protagonist in order to develop his character further.
We were inspired by an article written by Charlie Sierra about building the back story to film characters in which he quoted from Riding The Alligator, a book written by Pen Densham, an Academy Award nominated filmmaker. In one of the chapters in the book, he provides a check list of questions every writer and director should ask of themselves when they are developing their characters. The purpose of this is to outline a deep understanding of your characters for both the actors and director, and for motivating a character’s choices or actions.

In addition, Luca came up with the idea of using clip on microphones for the interview, this would make it sound much more professional and less grainy audio which can really spoil the effect. As a result of this, we took up the time to research for 2 decent quality clip on microphones. We searched through Amazon before finding the ideal product (shown below).

Today in class we dedicated the majority of our time filming our hot seat interview with the Robotica CEO, Martin. We worked together to form a script
which the interviewer andinterview would follow.
After creating the script, we began setting up the cameras in the room
where the interview would take place. We set up 2 cameras which would allow us
to use the film technique, shot
reverse shot. This would allow us to create a more realistic and effective looking interview.

In addition, Luca came up with the idea of using clip on microphones for the interview, this would make it sound much more professional and less grainy audio which can really spoil the effect. When filming we used 2 cannon
750D cameras as well as our new clip on microphones
which we plugged into our phones and recorded using the voice memo app. We then sent the recordings to my
laptop where Luca then uploaded it Imovie and replaced it with the original
grainy audio.
We recorded in 2 areas, the first being the interview room and the
second being a door
which Max would walk through at the intro to give it more effect.
Below is our Hot Seat Interview:

FILMING: RICK TRAILER
Part of our film involves us showing our new teaser trailer for our
latest A.I. Creation, Rick. To
create this 30 second trailer, we filmed using a Cannon 750 and Luca edited it using IMovie.
My basic aim was to create a trailer with an iPhone teaser trailer theme. So we did some
research into how iPhone trailers were made and we then took inspiration to
create our own trailer. To do this we used various techniques such as white fade, gentle piano music and a voice soothing over which Luca did. We also did little extras such as making Richie (Rick) kneel down
on a chair whilst we span him around giving it a nice effect. In addition we also put the clips in slow motion to create a relaxed but professional effect.
Below is our final trailer which we created:
